Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered a transparent and fair inquiry into the Lahore assault case involving foreign women.
During a press conference in Lahore, the Deputy Inspector General of Operations, Faisal Kamran, stated that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had taken notice of an incident involving two foreign women. He added that all legal formalities had been completed and the accused had been presented before the court in handcuffs.
Kamran said that a man identified as Carlos had reported that his daughter and her friend were abducted. He noted that the two girls had arrived in Islamabad before travelling to Lahore, where they later managed to escape from a vehicle and took shelter inside a shop. He further stated that the route of the vehicle had been traced and fully documented.
He said the Punjab chief minister had ordered an inquiry conducted under standards of transparency and fairness, and that the case would be investigated by Lahore Police rather than the CCD unit. He also raised questions over how a statement recorded under Section 164 in relation to the girls had been leaked, adding that a medical examination required a magistrate’s order. Due to the absence of an official, a station house officer was sent to the residence of a magistrate to obtain the necessary directions.
Kamran stated that a man known as “Boss”, whose real name is Waheed, had a criminal record comprising ten registered cases.
