Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have put in place a structured security system aimed at safeguarding Chinese nationals working on construction and hydropower projects across the province.
Authorities stated that the first command and control room under the Special Security Unit (SSU) has been established and is operating round the clock.
The first unit of SSU personnel has been deployed at Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar to secure arrival and departure movements.
SSU staff at the airport continue their duties on a 24-hour basis, following specialist training that included instruction in the Chinese language.
Police said a 28-point security plan has been prepared for the movement of foreign nationals, particularly Chinese citizens, in coordination with federal institutions, with standard operating procedures in place for access to construction sites.
The central command and control room oversees the protection of transport convoys, while the SSU computerised system shares information with all regions in a timely manner.
Movement of convoys is also monitored directly through a GPS-based tracking system, and a dedicated emergency contact number has been set up for Chinese nationals.
Chinese companies are currently engaged in several projects in the province, including the Dasu Dam, Basha Dam, and Mohmand Dam hydropower schemes.
Chinese experts are also involved in other economic projects, including the Rashakai Economic Zone under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), as well as Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) developments.
