A brave Pakistan Air Force Group Captain, Asim Tariq, was martyred while attempting to rescue a woman in Shaheen Chowk within the jurisdiction of Margalla Police Station.
According to initial details, Group Captain Asim Tariq was passing along Ninth Avenue when he witnessed an attempted assault on a woman by a motorcyclist, who was trying to force her onto the vehicle. He intervened, allowing the woman to flee to the other side of the road.
During the incident, the suspect, identified as Saad, allegedly hurled abusive remarks before opening fire, resulting in fatal injuries to Group Captain Asim Tariq, who fell at the scene. The attacker fled the area, while police initiated the collection of evidence and launched an investigation.
Police, citing the woman’s statement, said the suspect was a colleague who had offered to escort her to work but diverted the route in an attempt to take her elsewhere. She resisted before the officer intervened in time to prevent further harm.
The sacrifice of Group Captain Asim Tariq has been termed as a reflection of the armed forces’ commitment to protecting human dignity. He has been widely remembered across the country and on social media for his actions.
He is survived by a widow, a son, and a daughter. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has sought an urgent report from the Islamabad police chief and directed that the suspect be arrested and justice ensured for the family of the deceased.
