Real Madrid announced on Sunday that they have reached an agreement with Inter Milan to sign Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries for a fee of around €20 million (£23 million).
The Spanish club said in a statement that Dumfries has signed a four-year contract, keeping him at the club until 30 June 2030.
The 30-year-old is an attacking right-back and has represented the Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup, where the team exited on penalties against Morocco in the Round of 32.
Dumfries will add competition at right-back alongside England international Trent Alexander-Arnold.
He joined Inter Milan from PSV Eindhoven in 2021 and won two Serie A titles. He also finished as a UEFA Champions League runner-up twice with the Italian club.
Dumfries is Real Madrid's fourth signing of the current summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konaté.
Real Madrid are rebuilding their squad after two successive seasons without a major trophy, following the appointment of veteran Portuguese coach José Mourinho as successor to Álvaro Arbeloa.
The club has also extended defender Antonio Rüdiger's contract until 2027 after the departures of Dani Carvajal and David Alaba at the end of last season.
