New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry has become the first from his country in 36 years to top the Test bowling rankings.
New Zealand now have the number one ranked Test bowler for the first time in over three decades. Following a career-best performance at The Oval, Henry has moved up six places to reach number one in the ICC Test bowling rankings.
Henry and Bumrah joint top of standings
Henry and India’s Jasprit Bumrah are jointly placed at the top of the standings, with Australia’s Mitchell Starc in third position. The 34-year-old becomes only the third New Zealander to achieve this ranking, after Jack Cowie in 1947 and Sir Richard Hadlee between 1984 and 1990.
Henry recorded match figures of 11 for 109 as New Zealand defeated England by 253 runs in the second Test, setting up a series decider at Trent Bridge starting on Thursday.
Root new No 1 in Test batting rankings as Brook displaced
Kyle Jamieson is the next highest-ranked New Zealand bowler, placed at number 22. England’s Joe Root has taken over as the new number one in the Test batting rankings, replacing team-mate Harry Brook.
Rachin Ravindra has moved up two places to become the highest-ranked New Zealand batter at number ten.
Daryl Mitchell has risen five places to number 16, while Glenn Phillips has climbed eight places to number 31 after his maiden Test century.
It is pertinent to note that Australia remain top of the Test team rankings, followed by South Africa, India, England and New Zealand.
