Pakistan and Turkiye have held high-level consultations on cooperation in the power sector, with the two countries signing three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between their energy institutions.
According to the Power Division, the MoUs were signed between ISMO, Turkey Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEİAŞ) and Energy Market Operations Inc. (EPİAŞ). Another MoU was agreed between Pakistan Power Market Company (PPMC) and Turkey Electricity Distribution Inc. (TEDAŞ).
Power Division signs agreements to strengthen power sector cooperation
The Power Division said the purpose of the agreements was to promote institutional cooperation in the power sector. Cooperation in governance frameworks and technical matters after privatisation was also included.

The agreements also focused on increasing institutional capacity, exchanging technical expertise, and strengthening cooperation in power system operations and transmission planning.
The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in electricity distribution management and digitalisation.
Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Leghari welcomed the signing of the MoUs, saying partnerships between energy institutions were important for strengthening the power sector.
He said Pakistan would benefit from Turkiye’s experience in electricity market reforms and post-privatisation frameworks. He added that cooperation between institutions would help exchange practical knowledge and operational experience.

The Turkish side expressed its commitment to long-term institutional cooperation between the two countries.
Turkiye, Pakistan discuss Turkish role in privatisation and investment
Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said Pakistan and Turkiye had discussed opportunities for Turkish companies to participate in Pakistan’s privatisation process, local partnerships and expansion of existing investments.
He said Turkiye would share its experience and expertise gained from electricity distribution reforms with Pakistan.

Bayraktar said three agreements signed in Istanbul would create new opportunities for cooperation in electricity interconnections, operational functions, capacity development and technological infrastructure.

The agreements include cooperation between TEDAŞ and PPMC for strengthening monitoring functions of distribution companies and establishing VR-based training centres.
A separate agreement between TEİAŞ and ISMO covers joint work in electricity transmission system operations, capacity development and technological infrastructure.
Another agreement between EPİAŞ and ISMO focuses on electricity market design, institutional capacity enhancement and digitalisation of processes.
