A major development has emerged in the rape and murder case of seven-year-old Muntaha Zahra in Sargodha, as the main accused, Arsalan, was killed in an alleged encounter with the Crime Control Department (CCD).
Police said the accused was being taken for recovery of the murder weapon when his alleged accomplices opened fire on the CCD team near Jhal Chakian Teen Pul.
According to police, Muntaha Zahra had left her home to buy something from a nearby grocery store but did not return. After her family informed authorities, police launched a search operation using CCTV footage and other evidence.
During the search, the girl’s body was recovered from the upper floor of a shop.
Police said four people, including main accused Arsalan, were arrested in connection with the incident. The investigation was later handed over to the CCD for further proceedings.
Officials said the CCD was investigating the case and working to recover key evidence linked to the crime.
Accused killed during recovery operation
According to CCD officials, Arsalan was being taken for recovery of the murder weapon when the team came under attack near Jhal Chakian Teen Pul. Officials said the accused’s alleged accomplices opened fire on the CCD team.
During the retaliatory action, Arsalan was killed by firing from his own accomplices, while the attackers managed to flee the scene.
Police said additional personnel were sought after the incident, and special teams were dispatched to arrest the absconding accused. Authorities said search operations are ongoing and efforts are underway to trace those who fled after attacking the CCD team.
The case has drawn serious public attention in Sargodha, with police saying further investigation is continuing.
