Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held on Wednesday an important telephone conversation on Wednesday and agreed to advance peace efforts and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The two leaders held detailed discussions on brotherly relations between Pakistan and Qatar, regional peace initiatives and a range of issues of mutual interest. In a statement issued on social media platform X, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he thanked the Qatar's emir for Doha's steadfast support for peace efforts that culminated in the historic Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
The prime minister said both leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive progress achieved during the first round of technical talks held in Bürgenstock.
Shehbaz hails Qatar’s role in regional peace efforts
They agreed that continued dialogue and close diplomatic engagement remain essential for advancing a sustainable peace process in the region. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan values Qatar's leadership role in promoting peace, stability and constructive diplomacy and appreciates its continued support in this regard.
The prime minister also thanked the Qatar's emir for his condolences following the death of a Pakistani national in the recent Ras Laffan fire incident.
He said the sympathy and support shown by the Qatari leadership reflected the deep human bonds shared by the two countries.
PM Shehbaz thanked the Qatari government for its generous hospitality towards the Pakistani community living and working in Qatar and for providing them with excellent facilities.
He said Pakistan attaches great importance to its brotherly ties with Qatar, which continue to grow stronger over time. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in diplomacy, economy, investment and energy, and to taking bilateral relations to new heights.
PM Shehbaz also renewed his invitation to the Qatar's emir to undertake an official visit to Pakistan later this year, saying the government and people of Pakistan looked forward to welcoming him.
Separately, the Prime Minister's Office said PM Shehbaz received a telephone call from Prince Fahd bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Governor of Tabuk Province.

During the conversation, Prince Fahd congratulated the prime minister on Pakistan's diplomatic efforts that resulted in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran.
The prime minister thanked the governor for his remarks and said Pakistan's peace efforts were aimed at promoting regional peace and stability with the support of brotherly countries, including Saudi Arabia.
Recalling the longstanding ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for his affection towards Pakistan.
The prime minister also invited Prince Fahd bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to visit Pakistan.
