A wave of deep grief and intense anger has gripped the local community following the alleged rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in Sargodha.
Despite a massive police crackdown and continuous raids across the region over the last 24 hours, the primary suspect remains at large.
The devastating incident came to light after the little resident of Block 8 in Sargodha went missing after leaving her home to buy something from a local shop. When she failed to return, a desperate search began, ultimately revealing the horrific truth that she had been murdered.
Later, CCTV footage surfaced showing the young girl arriving at the shop. Police have taken official possession of the footage and other critical evidence to piece together the final moments leading up to the crime.
Account dispute led to horrific violence
The official text of the First Information Report (FIR) reveals a deeply troubling backstory to the tragedy. According to the FIR, there had been a bitter argument between the accused and the girl's father regarding the shop's financial accounts.
Following this dispute, the innocent seven-year-old was targeted. The police report states that the shopkeeper allegedly raped the little girl before murdering her with a sharp instrument, after which the main perpetrator fled the scene.
Team formed as raids continue
In response to the horrific crime, District Police Officer (DPO) Sohaib Ashraf has ordered the immediate formation of a special six-member investigation team. Various police teams are currently conducting continuous raids to track down the fugitive whose criminal record is now being rigorously checked by investigators.
While the main suspect has managed to abscond for over 24 hours, police sources report important progress in the investigation. Authorities have already arrested three other suspects, as well as the shop owner and his son, all of whom are undergoing intense interrogation.
On the other hand, mourners gathered in large numbers as the funeral prayers for the girl were offered at the central graveyard.
Frustrated by the delay in the arrest of the primary killer, citizens are demanding immediate and decisive action. Sargodha police have reassured the public that the main accused will be brought to justice very soon to provide full closure and legal justice to the victim's grieving family.
