United States Vice President JD Vance has referred to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as one of the two most important people in his life during remarks on the sidelines of the Lake Lucerne summit.
Speaking on Sunday, Vance made a light-hearted comment in which he mentioned India and Pakistan in relation to two individuals close to him. He said he often joked that there are two very important people in his life.He added that one is his wife, whom he termed as Indian, while the other is Field Marshal Asim Munir, whom he termed as Pakistani.

Vance heaps praise on Field Marshal
US Vice President JD Vance has termed Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as an excellent military commander and praised Pakistan's role in efforts aimed at regional peace.
Speaking during talks in Switzerland, Vance said US President Donald Trump had authorised his team to pursue diplomatic solutions to a range of issues in the Middle East.
Vance stated that without Field Marshal Munir’s statesmanship, the present engagement would not have taken place.
He said the key question was whether the nature of relations in the Middle East could be changed permanently through dialogue and engagement.
Vance said significant progress had been made during the past few hours and noted that encouraging developments had also taken place over recent days. He expressed hope that further progress would follow in the coming hours.
The US vice president praised the roles of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, terming their contributions as commendable.
He said Pakistan's role had received appreciation across the world and added that Washington wished to build on the current momentum in the future.
Middle East peace priority, Iran’s constructive role hoped: Vance
Vance said peace in the Middle East remained a priority and expressed the hope that Iran would play a constructive role in efforts aimed at stability and peace.
He also voiced concern over the situation in Lebanon and said President Trump was working towards reducing tensions in the country.
Referring to Iran, Vance said positive discussions were required on key issues and stressed the importance of constructive dialogue.
He also praised Qatar's role in the peace negotiations, describing its contribution as worthy of recognition.
Vance said the current situation differed markedly from that of three days, three weeks and three months ago, adding that today was an important day for peace, development and efforts to end crises in the region.
