Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian is arriving in Pakistan today on a one-day official visit, marking another important development in Pakistan-Iran relations after Pakistan’s mediation in the US-Iran peace process.
President Pezeshkian will arrive in Islamabad today for his second official visit to Pakistan. A high-level delegation, including ministers and senior officials, will accompany the Iranian president during the visit.
Preparations for a dignified welcome have been completed in Islamabad. The federal capital has been decorated with welcome banners and the flags of Pakistan and Iran.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the visiting president will hold separate meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Meetings with the Senate chairman, National Assembly speaker, deputy prime minister and foreign minister are also part of the visit.
The talks are expected to focus on strengthening high-level contacts and taking bilateral ties to new heights.
Bilateral relations to be reviewed
Pakistan and Iran will hold detailed discussions on the full scope of bilateral relations. Cooperation in key areas, including bilateral trade, energy, border security and regional connectivity, will be discussed.
The two sides will also review progress and implementation of previous agreements on economic cooperation.
Regional and global affairs will also come under discussion during the Iranian president’s meetings in Islamabad. The agenda includes peace in the region, regional coordination and matters of mutual interest.
The visit is being seen as another development in the changing diplomatic landscape of the region after the US-Iran peace agreement.
Pakistan’s mediation role to be acknowledged
President Pezeshkian is expected to thank Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for Pakistan’s role in mediation between the United States and Iran. Pakistan’s efforts in hosting and facilitating the peace process have been described as an important step toward regional stability.
The visit is also expected to help further deepen the relationship between Pakistan and the brotherly Islamic country of Iran.

Traffic plan for Islamabad

Heavy traffic will be prohibited in Islamabad from midnight.

All entrances to the Red Zone, except those from Marriott Hotel and Margalla Road, will remain completely closed.

Traffic diversions will be in place on the Expressway, Murree Road, and Club Road from Koral to Faizabad.

Srinagar Highway will be completely closed from Zero Point to Dhokri Chowk.

Residents are advised to follow alternative traffic routes due to the closure of several roads.

Traffic traveling from Faisal Avenue towards Zero Point will be diverted to Ninth Avenue.

After the closure of routes from Zero Point to Koral Chowk, commuters should use Ninth Avenue via Srinagar Highway.

Traffic will be diverted towards Taramri Chowk when Park Road and Club Road are closed.

Travelers coming from Bara Kahu have been advised to use Ring Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road as alternative routes.
