Pakistan and China have hosted a UN Security Council Arria-formula meeting, calling for effective and impartial implementation of Security Council resolutions to help address long-running global conflicts.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, said unresolved disputes, including Kashmir and Palestine, continue to pose a serious threat to international peace and security.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Pakistan and China jointly hosted the UN Security Council Arria-formula meeting to discuss ways to ensure the effective and impartial implementation of Security Council resolutions.
The meeting reviewed possible mechanisms to strengthen compliance with Council decisions and improve the credibility of the UN system.

UN officials brief meeting
UN Assistant Secretary-General Khaled Khiari briefed the meeting on the issue. Richard Gowan of the International Crisis Group was also among those who delivered a briefing, the Foreign Office spokesperson said.
Kashmir, Palestine termed threats to peace
Pakistan declared the unresolved conflicts of Kashmir and Palestine a threat to global peace.
Addressing the meeting, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar said Security Council resolutions are not merely recommendations but legal obligations.

He said non-implementation or prolonged delay in implementing resolutions weakens the credibility of the Security Council.
Asim Iftikhar warned that failure to implement Security Council resolutions allows conflicts to continue for years. He said this prolonged inaction is contributing to human tragedies in Kashmir and Palestine.
The Pakistani envoy stressed that selective or delayed implementation undermines trust in the international system.

Member states welcome initiative
Member states welcomed the initiative taken by Pakistan and China at the meeting.
Participants emphasized the need for continued diplomacy, regular reviews and effective monitoring to ensure the implementation of Security Council resolutions.

The meeting also highlighted that impartial enforcement of Council decisions is essential for conflict resolution and lasting peace.
