Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pledged to work with the federation to overcome Pakistan’s economic difficulties and ensure socio-economic justice.
He addressed a large gathering on the 18th death anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan’s first female prime minister.
Bilawal described December 27 as a day for collective mourning, reflection, and a renewal of resolve, reiterating PPP’s commitment to constitutional supremacy, parliamentary governance, and social justice.
National defense achievements
The PPP chairman hailed Pakistan’s military success against India this year, calling it a victory for the entire nation. He credited Garhi Khuda Bakhsh and the Bhutto family for Pakistan’s missile technology and nuclear power.
Bilawal further stated that the Indian planes shot down during the May War were ordered by President Zardari, who also facilitated CPEC for Pakistan’s strategic and economic growth.
He emphasized that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly reacted strongly to Pakistan’s defense capabilities, highlighting Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s leadership.
Addressing political and economic crises
Bilawal Bhutto stressed that Pakistan’s economic difficulties are intertwined with political instability. He called for reconciliation among political parties, urging leaders to abandon extremism and work collaboratively to resolve national issues.
He criticised PTI (without naming) for misusing institutions and engaging in political extremism, saying that measures like May 9 do not fall within the scope of legitimate politics.
Federal-provincial cooperation
Bilawal Bhutto proposed transferring more responsibilities to provinces instead of centralizing powers, including electricity distribution and tax collection through FBR. He said collaborative problem-solving is essential to uplift citizens from economic hardship and ensure equitable growth.
Highlighting PPP initiatives, he mentioned the Benazir Income Support Program and free housing schemes, along with Sindh’s healthcare system, which provides free treatment to patients, including 50% from other provinces.
He praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for responding to PPP suggestions, such as declaring an agricultural emergency, and reiterated that only President Asif Zardari can navigate the country out of political crises due to his role as the “king of reconciliation.”
