India defeated Afghanistan by 170 runs in the second one-day international in Lucknow on Wednesday, sealing an unassailable 2–0 lead in the three-match series.
India posted 402 for 10 in 49.5 overs after being put in to bat. Shubman Gill struck 154 and Ishan Kishan made 125, the pair sharing a commanding 224-run stand for the third wicket.
Rohit Sharma contributed 48 as India recovered from an early setback, with Gill and Rohit adding 87 for the second wicket. The innings later surged through Kishan’s rapid scoring before a late collapse saw India lose seven wickets for 42 runs.
Afghanistan’s bowling was led by Nangeyalia Kharote, who took four wickets, while Rashid Khan claimed three.
In reply, Afghanistan were bowled out for 232 in 44.3 overs. Rahmat Shah top-scored with 79, while Sediqullah Atal made 42 and Rahmanullah Gurbaz added 41.
Arshdeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar took three wickets each, as India’s attack maintained pressure throughout. Debutant Prince Yadav also contributed with key breakthroughs in a disciplined display.
Extreme heat in Lucknow led to multiple drinks breaks and visible strain on players, with cramp-related interruptions reported across both sides.
India’s innings had earlier been built on strong partnerships before momentum shifted late on. Afghanistan’s chase never fully stabilised despite brief resistance in the middle order.
