Pakistan recorded a significant decline in food exports, with overall shipments falling by 30.19 per cent year-on-year in May, according to official documents.
Food exports totalled $408.026 million in May, compared with $584.5 million during the same month last year, the documents showed.
Rice exports declined by 17.20 per cent on an annual basis during May. The value of rice exports stood at $198.09 million during the month, according to official figures.
Fruit exports registered a year-on-year decline of 59.02 per cent in May. A total of 8,337 tonnes of fruit worth $5.566 million was exported during the month, the documents stated.
Vegetable exports recorded a sharp annual decline of 67.31 per cent in May. During the month, 46,420 tonnes of vegetables worth $10.5 million were exported.
During the first 11 months of the current financial year, food exports fell by 31.86 per cent compared with the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
Food exports amounted to $4.5987 billion during the first 11 months of the current financial year, against $6.7488 billion recorded in the same period of the last financial year.
