Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has called for calm and political dialogue in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), urging protesters to end sit-ins and resolve issues through meaningful negotiations within the constitutional framework.
He made the remarks while chairing a high-level meeting in Lahore on Wednesday to review the political and administrative situation in Azad Kashmir. The meeting was attended by senior leadership of PML-N from both Pakistan and AJK.
Call for peace and dialogue
Expressing concern over the prevailing situation, Nawaz Sharif said such unrest should not have arisen and stressed that all stakeholders must work towards peace and stability.
“This country belongs to all of us. We should struggle for rights within the framework of the constitution,” he said, adding that political differences should be resolved through dialogue rather than street protests.
He urged all sides to end sit-ins and engage in meaningful talks to restore normalcy in the region.
AJK Issue and party stance
Reaffirming the party’s position on AJK, the PML-N president said the issue remains central to Pakistan’s foreign and political policy.
He stated that people of Indian-administered Kashmir should be granted the right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations resolutions.
Nawaz Sharif also highlighted that PML-N has always prioritised the development, constitutional rights, and welfare of the people of Azad Kashmir.
Appeal for stability in AJK
He appealed to the people of Azad Kashmir to remain peaceful while maintaining their ideological and emotional ties with Pakistan.
“Kashmiris have made great sacrifices, and Pakistan has always supported their legitimate struggle,” he said.
He expressed hope that the government of Pakistan, the AJK administration, and all political forces would play their role in restoring peace and ensuring political stability.
Nawaz Sharif stressed the importance of tolerance and unity, saying that all citizens must work together for national harmony.
He said political struggles must remain within constitutional boundaries and warned against any actions that could serve external hostile agendas.
The meeting also expressed grief over the loss of lives in recent incidents in Azad Kashmir and prayed for the departed souls.
During the meeting, Nawaz Sharif appreciated the efforts of Federal Minister Engineer Amir Muqam for managing election campaigns in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir effectively.
He reiterated that PML-N would continue to support democratic forces and play its role in strengthening governance and stability in the region.
