Lt Gen (retd) Sajjad Ghani has stepped down from his position as chairman of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), citing personal reasons.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has forwarded his resignation to the Cabinet Division for formal approval. In an official statement, the prime minister appreciated Sajjad Ghani’s services during his tenure and acknowledged his contributions to Pakistan’s water and power infrastructure development.
The PM also extended his best wishes to the outgoing chairman for his future endeavours.
Sajjad Ghani, who was appointed as the 23rd chairman of WAPDA in mid-2022, brought a unique blend of military and engineering expertise to the role. A graduate of the Military College of Engineering, he earned his bachelors degree in 1984 and later completed a Masters in Civil Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore.
His uncommon dual career as both a civil engineer and a senior military officer made him particularly well-suited to lead some of Pakistan’s most challenging infrastructure projects.
Over the course of his military service, Ghani held several key leadership positions. He served as commander of the Corps of Engineers and later as quartermaster general, managing large-scale construction and logistics for the armed forces. His other prominent roles included vice chief of general staff at General Headquarters (GHQ) and Karachi Corps Commander.
