Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a special committee to examine the Telecommunication Reorganization Amendment Bill.
The committee will review legal, technical, and policy aspects of the legislation and submit recommendations on its implementation.
According to official sources, the committee will be chaired by Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar.
It includes Senator Sherry Rehman, Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima, and Ahad Khan Cheema as members.
Attorney General Mansoor Awan, along with legal and IT experts, has also been included to ensure technical and constitutional review of the bill.
Focus on right-of-way framework
Officials said the committee will specifically examine the right-of-way framework outlined in Section 2 of the bill.
The review will focus on access for telecommunication infrastructure on private land and public property.
The committee has been tasked with proposing improvements to ensure smooth implementation of telecom infrastructure projects.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the committee to complete its review process on an urgent basis.
The committee is expected to submit its recommendations soon to facilitate further legislative progress.
The National Assembly has already approved the Pakistan Telecommunication Reorganization Amendment Bill.
After its passage in the lower house, the bill is now expected to be presented before the Senate for further consideration.
Under the proposed amendment, private property owners and government institutions will be required to provide space for telecom infrastructure.
This includes facilities for laying optical fiber cables and installing mobile towers.
The bill also proposes strict penalties, including fines of up to Rs 50 million, for individuals or institutions that refuse access for telecom installations.
