The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) spokesperson said on Sunday that the chances of sighting the Muharram moon on June 15 are extremely limited, and Zil Hajj 1447 AH is expected to complete 30 days.
The spokesperson said the moon of Muharram 1448 AH will be born at 7:54am on 15 June 2026. The likelihood of sighting the crescent in Pakistan on the evening of 15 June remains very low.
If 1 Muharram falls on June17, Youm-e-Ashura will be observed on Friday, June 26.
At sunset, the moon's age will be approximately 11 hours and 50 minutes. In coastal areas, a gap of around 40 minutes is expected between sunset and moonset.
According to astronomical calculations, 1 Muharram 1448 AH is expected to fall on Wednesday, 17 June 2026.
The statement said the final announcement regarding the start of Muharram will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The decision on moon sighting will rest on credible testimonies received from across the country.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee holds the final authority for determining the beginning of Islamic months in Pakistan.
