Revised code will also apply to judges of the Federal Constitutional Court and Federal Shariat Court, while restrictions on attendance at social and cultural events have been eased.
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has approved key amendments to the code of conduct for judges, expanding its scope and easing certain restrictions on participation in public events.
The revised code of conduct will now apply not only to judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts but also to judges of the Federal Constitutional Court and the Federal Shariat Court.
Under the new amendments, judges will be permitted to attend political and diplomatic events only with the prior approval of the Chief Justice. However, the previous general restriction on attending social and cultural events has been removed.
Earlier, judges were broadly barred from attending social, cultural, political and diplomatic gatherings. The amendments introduce greater flexibility in this regard while retaining safeguards for participation in sensitive events.
The SJC has also amended paragraphs two and three of Article 15, formally incorporating the Federal Constitutional Court into the code of conduct.
