The federal budget for the next fiscal year has proposed an allocation of Rs17 billion for the National Assembly, marking an increase of Rs700 million compared to the current year, according to budget documents.
The proposed amount will cover parliamentary affairs, administrative expenses, salaries, allowances and other institutional costs.
According to the federal budget documents, Rs17 billion has been proposed for the overall expenses of the National Assembly in fiscal year 2026-27.
The allocation is Rs700 million higher than the current fiscal year’s budget.
Speaker, deputy speaker offices get allocation
The budget documents show that no increase has been proposed in the budget of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
According to one part of the document, Rs490 million has been allocated for expenses of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and their offices, while another budget entry lists the amount at Rs390 million.
Secretariat employees to receive Rs9.24bn
A major share of the National Assembly budget has been allocated for the salaries and allowances of employees of the National Assembly Secretariat.
According to the documents, Rs9.24 billion has been set aside for the secretariat employees’ salaries and allowances.
The budget estimates that Rs5.35 billion will be spent on the salaries, allowances and other benefits of members of the National Assembly. This allocation covers payments and privileges linked to MNAs during the next fiscal year.
Opp leader, committees allocated funds
More than Rs80 million has been allocated for Opposition Leader Mahmood Achakzai and his chamber staff. The budget also proposes Rs168.9 million for the chairmen of the standing committees of the National Assembly.
More than Rs500 million has also been proposed for the Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services. The institute supports parliamentary research, training and capacity-building activities.
