The privatisation process of the Pakistan International Airlines has reached an important legal stage following the approval of key legislation.
President Asif Ali Zardari, has given assent to the PIA Conversion Repeal Bill 2026. The approval has completed the legal requirements needed for the completion of the privatisation process.
The bill had earlier been passed by the Senate on June 10 and by the National Assembly on June 11. It is reported that legal formalities required for the completion of the privatisation process have now been fulfilled.
The privatisation of 75 per cent shares of the PIA took place through a bidding process held on 23 December 2026, in which the Arif Habib Consortium submitted a successful bid of Rs135 billion.
