Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said on Thursday that the absence of continuity in public policies had held back Pakistan’s progress.
Speaking during a discussion on the Economic Survey, he said national development was not a Twenty20 contest but a Test match that required patience, consistency and long-term commitment.
Iqbal said successive policies must be given sufficient time to produce results, adding that governments should not abandon or reverse initiatives that were delivering progress.
He said that if a government was performing well, its policies should not be disrupted, referring to the political developments of 2018.
The planning minister said that the pace of development achieved under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif could have taken Pakistan much further had that process not been interrupted.
