An important meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) has been convened for tomorrow at 11:30am under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to finalise key decisions on the upcoming development budget.
The meeting will focus on the distribution of development funds between the federation and provinces for the fiscal year 2026–27.
According to sources, the NEC meeting will formally review and approve development priorities for the new fiscal year.
Chief Ministers of all four provinces are expected to attend the session, along with representatives from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The council will also deliberate on the national development programme and broader economic targets.
The meeting will consider the distribution of development funds between the federal government and provinces, which remains a key part of annual fiscal planning.
Sources said the NEC will approve both the development budget and economic priorities for 2026–27.
Proposed development budget structure
According to official sources, the total proposed national development budget for the upcoming fiscal year stands at Rs 4,715 billion.
The breakdown includes:
- Rs 1,126 billion for the federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP)
- Rs 3,138 billion for provincial development projects
Officials said the allocation reflects ongoing development needs across the country.
Sources also indicated that the federal PSDP may see an additional increase of around Rs 200 billion, though final approval will depend on NEC deliberations.
