Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday met a delegation of the Global Fund in Islamabad, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening the country’s healthcare system and eliminating major infectious diseases.
The prime minister welcomed the delegation on their arrival and highlighted the importance of continued cooperation in improving public health outcomes.
Pakistan values partnership with Global Fund
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan highly values its partnership with the Global Fund, calling it an important stakeholder in the country’s healthcare reforms.
He noted that the Global Fund plays a significant role in improving public health systems in developing countries and appreciated its continued cooperation with Pakistan.
Focus on TB, HIV and malaria elimination
The prime minister emphasized that the government is fully committed to eliminating tuberculosis (TB), HIV, and malaria from the country.
He said coordinated efforts are underway to strengthen healthcare delivery systems and ensure better prevention, treatment, and awareness of these diseases.
Shehbaz Sharif added that international partnerships like the Global Fund are strengthening Pakistan’s capacity to achieve these public health goals.
The prime minister described the Global Fund as a key partner in improving Pakistan’s healthcare infrastructure and disease control programmes.
He said collaboration with the organization has contributed significantly to national efforts aimed at strengthening the health sector and reaching vulnerable populations.
