Two more monkeypox cases have been reported in Lahore, taking the city’s total number of infections this year to 54.
According to medical experts, two 22-year-old women have been confirmed to have contracted the virus and have been admitted to Mayo Hospital for treatment.
Health experts said the monkeypox cases reported in Lahore are local in nature. They added that the affected patients have no history of foreign travel, raising concerns about local transmission of the virus in the city.
Both women infected with monkeypox are currently undergoing treatment at Mayo Hospital in Lahore. Medical teams are monitoring their condition as authorities continue to track the spread of the virus.
Citizens advised to quarantine
Medical experts have advised citizens to take immediate precautions if they develop symptoms linked to monkeypox. They urged people to quarantine themselves and seek medical advice immediately in case of high fever and rashes on the body.
Health experts also advised citizens to consult a doctor without delay if a rash appears on the body.
No cases in Islamabad, Rawalpindi
No monkeypox case has been reported so far this year in the federal capital Islamabad or the twin city of Rawalpindi. Health experts said the virus can be effectively avoided by following precautionary measures.
The World Health Organization has issued regular guidelines for the prevention of monkeypox. According to health experts, timely vaccination can be effective in suspected cases.
WHO has also advised people to avoid using items belonging to infected individuals to reduce the risk of transmission.
Sindh reports 34 cases and nine deaths
Monkeypox cases have also started increasing across Sindh, including Karachi. So far this year, 34 cases have been reported across the province, while nine people have died from the virus.
According to officials, the highest number of monkeypox cases in Sindh has been reported from Khairpur. Khairpur has recorded 22 cases, while three cases have been reported from Sukkur.
The number of monkeypox cases in Karachi has reached nine.
Officials said the last monkeypox case in Sindh was reported in May. No case has been reported in the province so far in June.
