Apple is reportedly preparing to launch the iPhone Air 2 in spring 2027, with prototypes already under development inside the company, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The upcoming model is expected to retain the ultra-thin design of the current iPhone Air but introduce meaningful improvements in two major areas: camera capability and battery life.
According to the report, internal prototypes of the iPhone Air 2 feature a dual-camera setup on the rear. The current iPhone Air includes a single 48-megapixel rear camera, which has been one of the most commonly criticized features by users.
The new model is expected to add an ultra-wide lens alongside the existing main camera. However, the device is not expected to include a telephoto lens at this stage.
The addition of a second camera is aimed at addressing user feedback and improving photography flexibility, particularly for landscape and group shots.
Battery life also set for improvement
Alongside camera upgrades, Apple is also focusing on improving battery performance in the iPhone Air 2.
The report suggests it is still unclear whether the improvement will come from a larger battery or from more efficient internal hardware design. Given the slim form factor of the Air lineup, increasing battery size may be limited.
Instead, Apple may rely on efficiency improvements to extend battery life without changing the device’s compact structure.
Response to user feedback on current model
The single-camera system on the current iPhone Air has reportedly been one of the most common customer complaints, according to sources cited by Bloomberg.
The upcoming changes appear to directly address this feedback, signaling Apple’s effort to make the Air lineup more competitive in the premium smartphone segment.
Launch timeline and iPhone 18 cycle
Previous reports from The Information also support the development of the iPhone Air 2 with a second camera, reinforcing expectations for a 2027 release.
If Apple follows its current roadmap, the iPhone Air 2 is expected to launch alongside the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e models in spring 2027.
This would be part of Apple’s newly split release schedule:
- Fall 2026: iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Fold
- Spring 2027: iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18, iPhone 18e
