The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has called a meeting on June 15 to sight the moon of Muharram.
The meeting will be held at Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, where committee members will review moon-sighting testimonies from across the country.
The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on June 15 to determine the start of Muharram. The committee will make a final announcement after receiving and reviewing evidence of moon sighting from different parts of Pakistan.
Moon unlikely to be sighted on June 15
According to astronomers, there is no possibility of sighting the Muharram moon anywhere in the country on June 15. They said the moon is unlikely to be visible across Pakistan that evening.
Astronomers say Muharram is expected to begin in Pakistan on June 17. If the forecast holds, the first month of the Islamic calendar will start a day after the expected non-sighting on June 15.
Ashura likely on June 26
According to astronomers, the Day of Ashura is likely to fall on June 26 in Pakistan. However, the final dates will depend on the official announcement by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after its meeting.
