The government has continued its efforts to secure the support of its coalition partner, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), ahead of consultations on the 2026-27 budget.
A meeting between delegations of the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) concluded on Sunday. The government delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and included officials from the Ministry of Finance.
The PPP delegation comprised Naveed Qamar and Sherry Rehman.
Sources said a deadlock over budget-related matters remains between the government and its coalition ally. The PPP has expressed reservations regarding additional taxation on the provinces, subsidies and the development budget.
According to PPP sources, efforts are under way on both sides to resolve the impasse. The next round of talks is expected to take place between the leadership of the government and the allied party.
A meeting between the PPP delegation and the Prime Minister is also expected later today.
