Lebanon President Joseph Aoun said that Lebanon’s talks with Israel are separate from the Iran matter.
He said that, following intervention by the United States President, a ceasefire and a path to negotiations were established, and contact with US President Donald Trump continues to maintain the ceasefire.
Joseph Aoun said that former ambassador Simon Karam will lead the talks with Israel; Karam has previously served as Lebanon’s ambassador to the United States.
It is recalled that Lebanon entered the war on 2 March when Hezbollah, backed by Iran, launched attacks on Israel.
According to Hezbollah, the attacks were in response to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was targeted by Israel on 28 February on the first day of the war.
Israel has been accused of repeated violations of a ceasefire agreed in November 2024. More than 2,000 people have been killed and over one million displaced in ongoing Israeli strikes on Lebanon.
