China has expressed concern over rising tensions between the United States and Iran following the seizure of an Iranian cargo ship, urging all sides to act responsibly and uphold the ceasefire.
At a press briefing on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Beijing is concerned about reports that the US seized an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel.
He described the action as “forced detention,” signaling China’s unease over the latest escalation.
Guo Jiakun warned that the situation has entered a critical phase, highlighting the urgency for de-escalation. He stressed that the current developments could further destabilize the already tense environment in the region.
Ceasefire compliance and restraint
China urged all parties involved to demonstrate responsibility and strictly adhere to the ceasefire agreement.

The spokesperson emphasized the need for restraint and called for creating “necessary conditions” to stabilize the situation, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz.
China offers role in diplomacy
Reiterating Beijing’s diplomatic stance, Guo Jiakun said China is willing to play a constructive role in facilitating negotiations between the US and Iran.
He expressed hope that dialogue and cooperation would help ease tensions and prevent further escalation.
China’s remarks underline growing international concern over the situation in the Gulf, especially as maritime tensions threaten global trade routes.
With the crisis deepening, Beijing’s call for diplomacy reflects broader efforts to stabilize the region and support ongoing negotiations.
