Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said on Friday that only a few points remained to be agreed in the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran.
He expressed these views while speaking at a discussion during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. Dar said South Asia, particularly Pakistan, possessed immense potential, but regretted that the region, with a population of two billion, had a combined GDP of only four trillion dollars.
He said the US-Iran dispute had adversely affected the region’s economy and trade, adding that efforts had been under way from the outset to resolve the conflict.
The deputy prime minister said there was no formal system of trade among countries in the region and stressed the need to enhance trade and connectivity between South Asian states.
He said Pakistan was an ideal country for transit shipment in South Asia.
Dar termed Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States after 47 years as a matter of pride.
He also welcomed the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz following a ceasefire in Lebanon.
