According to remarks carried by Iranian media, the council approved the policy a day earlier as part of efforts to prevent further escalation in the region.
Apology to neighbouring countries
During his statement, Pezeshkian also apologised to neighbouring countries for the missile strikes that occurred in recent days.
He stressed that Iran did not intend to target the territories of its Arab neighbours and said the new decision aims to avoid unnecessary confrontation with countries in the region.
Explosion heard over Doha after statement
However, within minutes of the president’s remarks, an explosion was reportedly heard in the sky over Doha, accompanied by a security alarm.
Observers said the sound likely came from an interception, suggesting that a projectile may have been detected and neutralised in the air.
