Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan visited several rest areas along the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2), taking note of the poor condition of facilities and engaging directly with travelers, including overseas Pakistanis who praised improvements in travel amenities.
During his inspection, the minister interacted with passengers at multiple rest areas, observing firsthand the condition of rest houses and shops. He emphasized the need to enhance travel comfort and ensure consistent service standards across all motorway facilities.
Abdul Aleem Khan instructed the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and National Highway Authority (NHA) to prepare a joint improvement plan within 15 days. The plan will include expansion of rest areas, uniform layout for shops, and the provision of food and drinks at fixed prices for travelers.
Focus on data and planning
The minister directed authorities to compile mutual data based on the daily number of vehicles using M2. This data will help in planning expansions and ensuring the rest areas are equipped to handle peak traffic efficiently.
During his visit to Bhera Rest Area, several overseas Pakistanis expressed gratitude to the minister for the ongoing upgrades. One passenger highlighted that communication and travel facilities in Pakistan are gradually improving, reflecting positively on government efforts.
Abdul Aleem Khan stressed that rest areas should not only be functional but also aesthetically pleasing. Expanded and decorated rest areas with standardized shop layouts aim to provide a comfortable and safe travel experience for all motorists.
