A female student who attempted suicide by jumping from the second floor of a private university in Lahore remains in critical condition, prompting the formation of a medical board for her treatment.
The university administration has also constituted an eight-member inquiry committee to investigate the incident.
According to details, this is the second tragic incident reported at the private university located on Raiwind Road within a few days. The D-Pharmacy student jumped from the second floor of the building and was rushed to Lahore General Hospital, where she is currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a critical state.
Sources said the student, a resident of Narang Mandi, had called her family shortly before the incident.
Doctors at Lahore General Hospital have prepared an initial medical report and handed it over to the police. The report states that the student has suffered severe brain swelling, serious damage to her left lung, compression of the second and third vertebrae of the spine, and fractures in both heels.
A special four-member medical board has been formed at the hospital to oversee her treatment, including a neurosurgeon, general surgeon, and orthopedic specialists.
Meanwhile, the university administration has formed an eight-member inquiry committee under the leadership of Dean Faculty of Law (Retired) Bilal Khan to probe the incident. Classes at the university have been suspended and shifted online.
Students have alleged that attendance pressure and high tuition fees are contributing factors to mental stress.
It is pertinent to note that a few days earlier, another D-Pharmacy student at the same university had died after jumping from the building. Police investigations into both incidents are currently underway.
