Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir attended Christmas celebrations at Christ Church in Rawalpindi, joining the Christian community in commemorating the festive occasion.
During the visit, the field marshal extended heartfelt Christmas greetings and best wishes for peace, harmony, and prosperity to the Christian community. He described Christmas as a joyous occasion that reflects shared values of compassion and unity, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
He interacted warmly with members of the congregation, underscoring the importance of mutual respect among all faiths.
Tribute to Quaid-e-Azam’s vision
Paying tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted the Founder’s vision of equality, freedom, and religious tolerance. He emphasized that the protection of minority rights remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s ideology.
He noted that Pakistan’s constitutional framework guarantees equal rights and dignity for all citizens, irrespective of religion.
Recognising Christian contributions
The field marshal acknowledged the enduring contributions of Pakistani Christians to national development and security. He praised their proud and distinguished service in the Pakistan armed forces across generations. He said the Christian community has played a vital role in strengthening Pakistan’s institutions and defending the homeland.
Field Marshal Munir stressed the importance of interfaith harmony, unity, and mutual respect. He stated that Pakistan’s true strength lies in its diversity, equal opportunities, and shared constitutional values beyond religion, ethnicity, caste, and creed.
He added that national cohesion is built when all communities feel respected and included.
Armed forces’ commitment
Reaffirming the stance of the armed forces, the CDF said the Pakistan armed forces remain fully committed to upholding the dignity, security, and equal rights of all citizens, as enshrined in the Constitution of Pakistan.
Christian community leaders expressed gratitude for the field marshal’s visit to Christ Church. They acknowledged the Pakistan armed forces’ role in the protection of the homeland, promotion of religious harmony, and strengthening of national unity.
They described the visit as a meaningful gesture of solidarity and respect.
