A formal case has been registered against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar following a viral video showing him pulling down the hijab of a Muslim woman doctor during an official event, igniting widespread criticism and political backlash.
The incident occurred on December 15, 2025, at a ceremony in Patna where appointment letters were being distributed to newly recruited AYUSH doctors. In the video, the 75-year-old Chief Minister appears to reach out and remove Nusrat Parveen’s hijab while she is receiving her job letter, drawing sharp reactions from citizens, political leaders, and rights activists.
The case was filed by Samia Rana, a leader of the Samajwadi Party, who lodged the complaint at a police station in Lucknow, demanding legal action against Nitish Kumar for his actions.
Political figures from multiple parties have condemned the act as disrespectful and an infringement on personal and religious freedom, calling for accountability. Some leaders have also sought strict legal consequences, arguing that the Chief Minister’s conduct violated social norms and individual dignity.
The controversy has also drawn international attention and criticism from human rights groups, who described the gesture as an affront to the autonomy and identity of the woman involved.
As public pressure mounts, the legal proceedings and political debates surrounding the case are expected to continue.
