The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has suspended four state cricketers amid corruption allegations during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 in Lucknow.
The players are accused of attempting to influence fellow Assam squad members, prompting both a BCCI investigation and a formal police FIR.
The ACA confirmed that Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi, and Abhishek Thakuri have been suspended with immediate effect. “They have been suspended to curtail any scope of further deterioration of the situation,” ACA Secretary Sanatan Das said.
During the suspension period, the four cricketers are barred from participating in any state-level tournaments, ACA-affiliated club matches, or cricket-related activities, including coaching, umpiring, or officiating. District associations have been instructed to enforce the order strictly.
FIR and BCCI investigation
Following the allegations, an FIR was lodged with the Crime Branch in Guwahati against the players. The charges accuse them of attempting to influence their teammates during Assam’s participation in the SMAT 2025, which ran from November 26 to December 8.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) conducted an inquiry, which found prima facie evidence of serious misconduct. Das emphasized that the actions “affect the integrity of the sport” and warranted immediate suspension.
Assam’s team did not progress to the ongoing Super League stage of SMAT 2025, and the controversy has added further scrutiny to the squad. The ACA stressed that the measures aim to preserve the team’s integrity while investigations continue.
“Prima facie, there appears to be involvement in serious misconduct affecting the sport,” ACA Secretary Sanatan Das said. The association has also alerted clubs and cricket academies to comply with the suspension order.
