Leonardo DiCaprio, named TIME’s 2025 Entertainer of the Year on December 8, offered a rare insight into how he manages life in the spotlight.
The 51-year-old actor reflected on balancing fame and privacy throughout his decades-long career.
DiCaprio explained that he has spent his entire adult life learning to stay grounded in the public eye. “It’s been a balance I’ve been managing my whole adult life,” he said, noting that he doesn’t consider himself an expert.
He shared his guiding principle: “Only get out there and do something when you have something to say, or you have something to show for it. Otherwise, just disappear as much as you possibly can.”
Reflections on titanic fame
Recalling the global frenzy following the 1997 release of Titanic, DiCaprio admitted the overwhelming nature of fame, despite its excitement. “I was like, okay, how do I have a long career? … The best way is to get out of people’s face.” This approach, he suggests, has helped him maintain longevity and balance in Hollywood.
The actor continues to keep his personal life private, including his relationship with model Vittoria Ceretti, which has lasted more than two years. Ceretti quietly supported him at the September premiere of One Battle After Another in Los Angeles, although DiCaprio has not publicly spoken about their relationship.
