An Afghan man named Jaan Shah Safi was arrested yesterday in Virginia by US immigration authorities, on allegations of providing support to ISIS‑K (Islamic State – Khorasan).
The arrest was carried out by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), acting under direction from the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
According to authorities, Safi allegedly supplied weapons to his father - described as a militia commander in Afghanistan - a group affiliated with ISIS-K. Safi originally arrived in the United States on September 8, 2021, under the Operation Allies Welcome program that resettled Afghan evacuees.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem praised the action, stating that ‘our heroic ICE officers arrested Jaan Shah Safi, a terrorist who provided material support to ISIS-K’.
Safi’s arrest marks yet another case among Afghan nationals detained in the US on terrorism-related charges in recent days.
