Apple is reportedly preparing a notable camera upgrade for its upcoming iPhone 17e. According to analyst Jeff Pu, the budget-friendly model will feature the same 18MP selfie camera found in the entire iPhone 17 series.
The device is expected to arrive in early 2026.
Jeff Pu’s latest research note suggests that the iPhone 17e will adopt the new 18MP front camera introduced with the iPhone 17 family. This move is unusual for Apple, which typically delays trickling down flagship features to entry-level models.
The upgraded camera uses a square sensor, allowing users to take both vertical and horizontal selfies without rotating the phone.
Expected launch timeline
Pu states that the iPhone 17e is scheduled for release in mid–first quarter 2026, pointing to a February launch window.
Alongside the new front camera, Apple is also expected to equip the iPhone 17e with the A19 chip, the same processor used in the standard iPhone 17. Together, the upgraded chip and front camera stand out as the biggest improvements compared to the current model.
