Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed on Thursday Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to combat terrorism, calling it a “major threat to global peace,” while emphasizing that the armed forces and the nation stand united in this fight.
The prime minister made these remarks while attending a ceremony in Islamabad celebrating the birthday of Britain’s King Charles III, organized by the British High Commission.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Shehbaz said it was an honour to join the celebrations marking King Charles III’s birthday, describing the British monarch as a “symbol of public service and global consciousness.”
He lauded King Charles’s efforts in promoting unity among Commonwealth nations, adding that his leadership continues to inspire cooperation across regions.
Premier highlighted the enduring partnership between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, noting that over two million citizens of Pakistani origin are contributing to British society across various fields.
“With British cooperation, Pakistan has successfully completed historic projects in education, health, and skill development,” the premier said.
Unity against terrorism
Touching on Pakistan’s security situation, PM Shehbaz reiterated that terrorism remains a global menace, and Pakistan stands firm in confronting it.
“The armed forces and the Pakistani nation are united against terrorism,” Shehbaz Sharif said, emphasizing that Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against extremism are a testament to its commitment to global peace and stability.
British High Commissioner reaffirms support
Earlier, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott expressed heartfelt condolences over the recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan, affirming the United Kingdom’s solidarity with the Pakistani people.
“Britain and Pakistan share a deep and historic relationship,” she said, noting that 15 members of the UK Parliament are of Pakistani origin — a reflection of the strong people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also credited the British High Commissioner’s personal efforts for the restoration of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to the UK, describing it as a positive step toward enhancing bilateral connectivity.
