Pakistan summoned the Afghan ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and conveyed strong reservations regarding the India–Afghanistan joint statement issued the previous day.
According to the Foreign Office, concern was expressed over remarks made by the Afghan caretaker foreign minister during his visit to India. The reference to Jammu and Kashmir as part of India contravenes United Nations resolutions. Such a position constitutes a clear violation of the legal status of Jammu and Kashmir. The joint statement reflected a marked disregard for the sacrifices of the people of occupied Kashmir and their struggle for the right to self-determination.
The spokesperson also rejected the Afghan minister's description of terrorism as an internal matter for Pakistan. Pakistan had, on several occasions, informed Afghanistan of the presence of Fitna al-Kharij and Fitna al-Hindistan on Afghan soil. Pakistan had shared details of the activities of these groups, which operate against Pakistan, with Afghan authorities.
The interim Afghan government, the statement said, could not shift the responsibility for terrorism onto Pakistan. It remains the duty of the Afghan authorities to take effective measures for the promotion of peace and stability in the region and beyond.
