A disturbing incident unfolded near the Pakistan–India border in Sindh’s Tharparkar district, where Indian forces allegedly opened fire on a herd of goats that had crossed the restricted range.
According to security officials, the incident occurred on Saturday evening in the village of Sunorani, located in Tehsil Dahli, when the animals inadvertently moved towards the Indian side of the border.
Eight goats killed, dozens injured
Authorities confirmed that eight goats were killed, while 54 others sustained serious injuries, with many suffering amputated limbs as a result of the gunfire.
Deputy Director of the Livestock Department reported that 43 of the injured goats were later sold to butchers in Umerkot, while 11 received medical treatment and medicines in the village by a veterinary team.
Images go viral, locals express outrage
Photos of the dead and wounded goats lying in the desert terrain quickly spread across social media, drawing widespread criticism and anger from the local population.
Residents of Sunorani and nearby villages condemned the incident, calling it “inhuman and unjustified.” They demanded that authorities lodge a strong protest against what they termed a violation of cross-border ethics.
Officials condemn incident
Security officials said the herd was likely grazing close to the border fence when it inadvertently crossed into the prohibited range, triggering firing from the Indian side.
A team from the Livestock Department later reached the site to assist with treatment and disposal of the animals. Officials confirmed that the incident was being investigated, and a detailed report would be forwarded to higher authorities.
