Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to visit the United States later this month to attend the UN General Assembly in New York, where he is likely to hold a meeting with US President Donald Trump.
Sources privy to the development said the prime minister will depart for the United Kingdom on September 20 before flying to the United States on September 22.
PM Shehbaz is scheduled to participate in the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. His visit is expected to focus on regional security, the Palestine conflict, and Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach amid ongoing global tensions.
Sources confirmed that Mr Sharif is likely to meet President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UNGA.
The meeting would mark another high-level engagement between Pakistan and the US following Trump’s recent interactions with Pakistan’s military leadership.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will accompany PM Sharif on the trip.
Dar is also scheduled to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss bilateral ties, economic cooperation, and security matters.
Trump’s earlier praise for Asim Munir
The upcoming meeting follows Trump’s rare interaction with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the White House in June.
Speaking to reporters after that meeting, Trump acknowledged Pakistan’s regional importance, particularly its understanding of Iran.

“Pakistan knows Iran better than we do — they’re a key player in regional peace,” he had said.
The White House also hosted a luncheon in Munir’s honour, appreciating Pakistan’s role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India. Trump credited the army chief for “not letting things spiral into war.
