The government has finalised its strategy regarding the issue of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members’ resignations from the standing committees.
According to details surfaced on Friday, the decision of National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq not to accept the resignations of opposition members remained unchanged, and government members have been directed to ensure the quorum is met.
Standing committee meetings will continue as usual in the absence of PTI members. The Speaker has issued instructions to the Assembly Secretariat in this regard. According to sources, in the absence of an opposition chairman, the convener will chair the meetings.
Government members have been directed to ensure quorum for the committee meetings. The Speaker said the work of standing committees will not be disrupted by the opposition’s resignations. It is necessary for the committees to remain active for legislative work and parliamentary oversight.
