Colleges across several flood-hit areas of the Lahore Division will remain closed for two days, as authorities move to ensure safety amid the ongoing flood situation.
The decision affects multiple institutions across Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, and Kasur.
Flood-hit colleges to remain shut on Aug 29 and 30
According to an official notification issued by the director of colleges, 16 colleges in the affected areas will remain closed on August 29 and 30. The closure has been announced due to flooding and related safety concerns.
The notification further directed that electricity supply to all these colleges should be switched off immediately to avoid any potential hazards.
Areas where colleges will remain closed
The holiday announcement covers multiple localities across the division:
-
Lahore: Colleges in Shahdara, Chuhng, and Bund Road
-
Sheikhupura District: Colleges in Sharaqpur Sharif, Ferozwala, Khanqa Dogran, and Narang Mandi
-
Nankana Sahib District: Colleges in Mandi Faizabad and Syedwala
-
Kasur District: Colleges in Kanganpur
Preventive measures amid floods
Authorities said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to protect students and staff in flood-affected areas. Heavy rains and overflowing rivers have already caused disruption in many parts of Punjab, forcing the education department to announce temporary closures.
The director of colleges also stressed the importance of immediate safety protocols, including the suspension of electricity in all closed institutions, to avoid accidents during the flooding emergency.
