A fresh spell of monsoon rains is set to sweep across Pakistan starting Sunday, August 4, bringing intermittent showers to several regions, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan, according to the Meteorological Department.
The forecast suggests that various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will experience persistent rainfall from August 4 to 7, while intermittent rains are also expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several cities of Punjab during the same period.
Urban flooding and landslide risks
The Met Office has warned of urban flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous regions, particularly in northern and hilly districts.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a high alert, especially for the upper and central districts where heavy rainfall, strong winds, and landslides are anticipated.
In its advisory, the PDMA noted that water levels may rise significantly in rivers such as the Chitral, Swat, Panjkora, and Kabul, posing a potential flood threat. Authorities have instructed district administrations to stay vigilant and ensure all necessary protective measures are in place.
The PDMA also urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel during the period of expected bad weather and remain cautious near rivers and water channels.
Rain forecast in Sindh and Balochistan
Meanwhile, sporadic rain showers are also forecast in parts of Sindh and Balochistan on August 6, raising concerns over flash floods in susceptible areas.
Met Department officials have advised residents in flood-prone zones to stay informed through weather updates and follow safety instructions from local authorities.
