Pakistan and Afghanistan have signed a preferential trade agreement under which both countries have agreed to implement an Early Harvest Program.
The announcement was made by Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Muhammad Sadiq.
Under the new agreement, customs duty on selected goods will be reduced from 60 percent to 27 percent.
The pact will come into effect from August 1, 2025, and will remain valid for one year, with the possibility of renewal.
According to Muhammad Sadiq, Pakistan will export mangoes, oranges, bananas, and potatoes to Afghanistan, while Afghanistan will export grapes, pomegranates, apples, and tomatoes to Pakistan.
The agreement is aimed at enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
