Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood alert for the province’s eastern rivers amid rising water levels and the risk of flooding from July 21.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, commissioners of Lahore, Sahiwal, Multan, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, and deputy commissioners of Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Attock, Gujrat, Sargodha, Khushab, Jhang, and other relevant districts have been placed on high alert.
Rescue 1122 has been directed to complete all necessary preparations in advance. The local government, irrigation department, and other relevant agencies have also been alerted.
PDMA Director General Irfan Kathia instructed district administrations to ensure all arrangements are completed in line with the Punjab Chief Minister's directives.
He ordered that emergency control rooms and Rescue 1122 disaster response teams remain on high alert, with adequate stocks of petrol and diesel maintained. Authorities were also directed to keep the public informed of the situation.
Additionally, the evacuation of homes and livestock from riverbeds has been emphasized to prevent loss of life and property.
